Privacy Policy

Version 2026-07-23.2. This explains what Permitable collects, why, and what we do with it. Plain language, because you should be able to tell what we're doing with your information without a lawyer. Permitable's services are provided to construction businesses for business purposes; this policy is part of our Terms of Service.

What we collect

• Your account: name, email, phone, and company. You sign in with your Google account or a link we email you — we don't store passwords.
• Your project information: addresses, plan sets, permit applications, licenses, construction cost, and the contacts on a project (owner, builder, architect, engineers).
• Licenses and credentials: the contractor licenses, business licenses, insurance certificates, and — where a jurisdiction requires them in a license package — government-issued IDs such as a driver's license, that you provide for permit submissions. We collect these to include them in the submission packages jurisdictions require, and for no other purpose.
• AHJ portal credentials: if you share login credentials for a jurisdiction's permitting portal so we can act as your agent, we store them securely and use them only to perform the services.
• Your agreement records: when someone on your account accepts our Terms of Service, we record who accepted, when, which version, the company they accepted for, and their confirmation that they were authorized to accept — and we archive the text of each published version. These records are evidence of our contract with you, and we keep them.
• Permit correspondence: emails and messages between Permitable, you, and the AHJ about your permits — including comment letters and review notes.
• Usage: basic logs of what happened in the portal, so we can tell what broke when something breaks.

Why we collect it

To do the job: prepare your permit applications, file them with the right jurisdiction, track reviews, and tell you what's happening. We also use information in aggregated or de-identified form — stripped of anything that identifies you or your projects — to understand and improve how well our systems read plans and prepare paperwork.

We do not sell your information. We do not share it with other builders. We do not use your project data to advertise to you.

Who else sees it

• The AHJ — permit filings are made to a jurisdiction, and many permit records are public by law once filed. That is the nature of permitting, not a choice we make.
• Service providers that run the product for us — hosting and database infrastructure, email delivery, AI providers that read plan sets and draft paperwork, e-signature providers that carry documents we send for signature, and accounting software we use for quotes and billing. They act on our instructions.
• Nobody else, unless you ask us to, or the law requires it.

AI processing

We use AI systems to read plan sets, derive which permits a project needs, and prepare form content. Your project documents are sent to those providers to do that work. A person at Permitable reviews the output before anything is filed or sent on your behalf.

How long we keep it

• Project and permit records: for as long as you have an account, and after that for as long as we reasonably need them — permit records have a long tail (revisions, inspections, disputes) and a closed permit is often needed years later.
• Permit correspondence: we retain the content of permit-related correspondence (including AHJ comment letters and review threads) as part of the permit record, for the same reason — it is frequently the only evidence of what a reviewer actually asked for.
• Agreement records: acceptance records and archived versions of our Terms are kept indefinitely, because they document the contract that governed the work.
• Logs: a short operational period, then discarded.

Your choices

Ask us for a copy of your information, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it, at chris@getpermitable.com. Some things we can't delete — a permit already filed with a jurisdiction is their record, not ours; we may need to keep what we filed; and we keep the agreement records described above.

Security

Your data is access-controlled so that you see your projects and not another builder's. Credentials you share with us are stored securely and used only for the purpose you shared them. We use reputable infrastructure providers. No system is perfect; if something goes wrong that affects you, we will tell you.

Changes

If this policy changes, we'll publish a new version and ask you to accept it the next time you sign in. Earlier versions and your acceptances are kept as a record.
